The Black Eyed Peas took home three gongs from this year’s American Music Awards.

The Los Angeles funk combo were unable to collect their awards in person, but thanked fans and artists “for keeping hip-hop progressive and pushing it forward” by satellite from Costa Rica.

They won for favourite group in both the rap/hip-hop and soul/R&B categories, also winning favourite rap/hip-hop album for ‘Monkey Business’.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers won two awards - for favourite pop/rock group and alternative music artist.
Other award-winners included Canadian rock band Nickelback (favourite pop/rock album), Eminem (favourite male rap/hip-hop artist), country stars Faith Hill (female country artist) and Tim McGraw (country album), Toby Keith (male country artist) and Shakira (Latin artist).

Usher and Fergie to collaborate

Usher looks set to play soul legend James Brown in a new film, and could be accompanied in the role by Black Eyed Peas’ star Fergie.

The R&B star has been landing rave reviews for his role in the Broadway production of Chicago, playing Billy Flynn - a money grabbing, big-shot lawyer. It is widely thought Usher is honing his acting talents on stage before a move into films.

A news source this week has speculated that the star could have landed his first big role as the Godfather of Soul. Pagesix.com reveals that Usher is the frontrunner, and could be joined by Fergie as one of Brown’s wives.

The source goes on to say that the flick is “still in an options state” but a script is in the works. Brown’s manager, Super Frank, adds, “Mr Brown is a true legend of our times, and he is very excited about making this film.”
